Macro: Opening Night Event description

This is a free event, but tickets ARE required for entry.

Our favourite homegrown “contemporary circus powerhouse”, Gravity & Other Myths (GOM), will team up critically acclaimed Indigenous Australian dance-theatre sensation Djuki Mala to ring in the 2022 Adelaide Festival with this free opening night event!

Those of you who saw The Pulse in 2021 will know what to expect when the full 30-strong troupe team up with a mass choir. Now add dancers, Scottish musicians and a large-scale projection and lighting display, and you have our world premiere opening night spectacular – MACRO.

Co-commissioned by Edinburgh International Festival, MACRO will feature Djuki Mala (formerly known as the Chooky Dancers) with their unique fusion of traditional dance, pop culture and storytelling. Joining GOM and Djuki Mala on stage will be Adelaide’s acclaimed youth vocal ensemble Aurora, and a trio of Scotland’s most revered contemporary folk artists, Aidan O’Rourke (fiddle), Kathleen MacInnes (vocals) and Bridghe Chaimbeul (pipes).

We don’t have a castle, but GOM’s inspirational towers and turrets of fit young bodies are equally breathtaking.

This will be a fun, beautifully produced event for families and friends to marvel at. A heart-in-mouth display of skill and co-ordination. But it will be more than that. From their humble DIY origins, every show mounted by this company is founded by a deep unspoken principle: to show what humans can do when they trust each other, support each other and urge each other to go further. Whether here on the grass, or 16,000 kilometres away on the cobblestones, we need to be reminded of those simple things.

Join this awesome community of performers in a celebration like no other and stay for the fireworks display that will follow this performance.
