Jaivet Ealom was born in Myanmar and now resides in Canada, where he has become a prominent spokesman for the Rohingya community. He is studying at Toronto University and works for a company that provides software to non-profit organisations.

Abbas Nazari and his family were resettled as refugees in New Zealand after being rescued by the MV Tampa in 2001 after their boat capsized on the high seas. In 2019, Abbas was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to the United States, where he attained a Masters in Security Studies from Georgetown University. After the Tampa is his first book.

Natasha Yacoub is a refugee law practitioner and scholar. She has worked with legal aid and the UN in Egypt, Sudan, Myanmar, Australia and the Pacific. She teaches at the University of London and is doing a PhD at the Kaldor Centre at UNSW Sydney. She publishes on refugee issues, including protecting refugees at sea and the failure of Australia’s offshore processing.
